AEDM Day 7

So, I had a play with the idea from Day 5.

Rather than water colour I decided to try gouache, a new medium for me, and this is the result. I'm not happy with it.

It's not how I envisage it; it's too bright, too much colour. It should be darker, more shadowy.

Oh well, I'll just try something else until I get it right.

  1. you could pop some glazes over the top to knock the colours back a bit? looks pretty moody to me though, very evocative

  2. It doesn't look that bright to me, but it could be my screen. You could try a bit of Payne's Grey watered down? I find that helps knock things back a bit sometimes. I find gouache quite challenging too; I think if you're used to acrylics it takes a while to get used to.

  3. I think it's great. It brings ideas of a soldier waiting in the shadow for what is going to come. Full of tension, and appropriate for this particular week.

  5. I've never worked with gouache before. Can you add more layers of color?

  6. I have only tried gouache a few times and had trouble myself, too different from my watercolors!

  7. As with a couple of comments before: I'm not seeing the brightness you're unhappy with.

I think your piece is wonderful!

  8. I love goauche but it is much stronger and takes a bit of getting used to... maybe give it a knock back with some watercolours if you still aren't happy with it, but I think it looks quite cool...xx...
