Imbolc (again)

The other side of this page (yes, I know it's a bit late).

Imbolc is a time of new beginnings, the start of spring. The Snowdrops, crocuses and other early flowering plants are already pushing through the cold hard ground, the birds are singing again, and the days are getting noticeably longer.

Although I don't do New Year resolutions, I try and set myself a challenge for Imbolc, either to achieve something in particular, or to change something about myself.

This year's is to be more positive. I'm not entirely sure that it's working, but it's early days yet :)

  1. that is an excellent affirmation

I had pretty much this conversation with my 9 year old, who has a tendency to dwell on the negatives, yesterday.

I am trying to get through to him that happiness is a choice.

I might print this out for him, if you don't mind?

  3. someone told me long ago "you don't have to believe everything you think" ...

I have thought about that alot ;)

and find that a simple mantra of a few words can sometimes help turn around negative thoughts and feelings...making a shift so I can move on

    hope I explained that well...

reading your post and thinking about spring blossoms and birds singing makes me feel positively good Nigel

    thanks as always for sharing

  5. This is thoughty, Nigel, and helps me to see that our thoughts can sometimes move mountains... I recently wrote my manifesto in which I say:

    I will live simply.
    I will encourage others.
I will see through eyes of Gratitude.
    I will choose Delight.

I will enJOY my World and its wonderful inhabitants.
I will BE of Service and give of myself generously.
I will live full-out and brave the risk of BEing laughed at.
I will always pause and consider Who & How I CAN BE Right Now.

I will embrace Life’s Time without complaining.
I will trust that I am loved, seen, and of value, even if only to myself.
I will use my gifts and talents to add what only I CAN to the World.
I will remember that healing is always possible through a smile, a touch, or just listening.

and in such simple words I find my greatest strength coming forth.

    I really enJOYed this.
    Thank You.
    BE Well.

  9. Love that first one--isn't laughter supposed to be a great stress reliever? But I'm still working on that third one myself...

  11. Nigel, these are all wonderful affirmations... and if you're TRYING to be more positive, it's already working. We can't change these traits overnight. The fact that this message speaks to you (enough to post it) means it's already working its magic. :-)
I hope you know that in my little corner here in Canada, i'm cheering you on. xoxo

  12. I enjoyed reading your post, Nigel!
I love everything about Spring. The return of "green", that first feeling of the warm sun on the skin. The birdies are singing and the days are starting to get brighter.
I think it's a good idea of setting a fresh start in SPRING.
Indeed, never know what tomorrows going to bring, so my motto is live it up now!"

Take care and enjoy the simple things in life!
    Gaby xo

  14. 'Fake it till you make it' a friend said to me recently so I'm passing it on, it you act more positive, even if you're not feeling it, then it'll happen. Human's being the creatures of habit that we are if you make anything a habit then it becomes part of our make up :) x
