This week's challenge over at 4x4 Friday is Crow Lady, posted by the talented Athena. Last week's theme was King Raven, and as every king needs a queen, allow me to introduce the Great Queen aka The Mórrígan.
In Irish mythology, she offered her love to the hero Cúchulainn who rejected her, not realising who she was. In return she prophesied his death and her part in it. At the end of the battle he dies, tied to a standing stone, and The Mórrígan appears in her guise as a crow, perched atop the stone.
You have illustrated this story wonderfully Nigel- I sense her spirit and power in this piece- really well done!
ReplyDeleteShe's lovely, Nigel - and your journal is surely filling up! :) I will email you and Athena this weekend regarding the raven journals. Must wrap up work for the week so that I can wrap my head around all things artsy.
ReplyDeleteWonderful drawing. You should keep doing more of it. This is really a fantastic piece :)
ReplyDeleteI like the interesting background story to your wonderfully colorful piece!
