Tribute

Before I start I have to say that this was way out of my comfort zone (I'm not a painter), but it had to be done, and I'm happy with the way it came out. (Still not sure about the teardrop though)

On Friday Jan 20th my wife passed away after 6 months of battling with cancer. Thankfully she passed quickly and peacefully with family at her side. Although we had separated, we were still married and still friends, just with different outlooks on life. Freesias were her favourite flowers due to their scent, so what else could I paint.
I have to praise my daughters who have been wonderful throughout, but especially my youngest who gave up work and became a round the clock carer, even though it left her physically and mentally drained at times, and who kept her mum alive when she collapsed until the medics arrived.

Thank you to those who have sent messages and kind words, it's much appreciated.

  22. Really? You are not a painter? That Freesia is lovely. I was a florist for a time and I do know my freesia. I hope that the loss of your wife and friend has lessened a bit over the last few months. I can say that when I lost someone that close to me it took many months but good memories of that person slowly replaced the more recent sadness.

  23. Nigel, thank you for the lovely comment on my blog...
when are you coming back? Have you been painting? I'm sure it's been such an adjustment for you and the family. These things take time. i do hope you're still making art and that it's giving your heart a voice to help with the healing. Take good care of yourself Nigel. And come back soon. We miss you. xoxo
